Why Last Light Shakerato Pairs With the Righteous Hunter
In our tasting notes, the Righteous Hunter has pronounced pepper that mellows into leather, light wood, dark chocolate and toasted coffee bean, then mocha and toffee sweetness before a peppery finale.
Fresh espresso doubles down on the toasted coffee bean and dark chocolate, the salted toffee syrup lines up with the mocha and toffee sweetness, and the light body keeps you refreshed against the peppery finish.
Ingredients
- 2 shots fresh espresso (or decaf)
- ½ oz toffee or caramel syrup
- 1 small pinch sea salt
- Garnish: three coffee beans
How to Make Last Light Shakerato
- Pull the espresso and let it cool for a minute.
- Add espresso, syrup and salt to a shaker with plenty of ice.
- Shake very hard for 15 seconds to build a thick crema.
- Strain into a chilled glass.
Pairing Tips
- Shake harder than feels necessary. The thick crema gives the drink enough body to stand next to a full-bodied cigar.
- Decaf espresso works well for a late smoke. The pairing comes from roast flavor, not caffeine.
- Serve it straight up and drink it while it's cold. A shakerato fades quickly.
