Why Benediction Pairs With the Chaplain Series

In our tasting notes, the Chaplain Series has toasted cashew with subtle cedar and leather, delicate white pepper, gentle honey sweetness and light floral hints, creamy and smooth throughout.

A smooth, light whiskey won't overpower a mild-medium Connecticut. Honey matches the Chaplain's honey sweetness, and a small amount of elderflower picks up its light floral hints without hiding the toasted cashew.

Ingredients

  • 1½ oz Irish whiskey
  • ¾ oz fresh lemon juice
  • ½ oz honey syrup (1:1)
  • ¼ oz elderflower liqueur
  • Garnish: lemon twist

Syrup note: Honey syrup (1:1): Stir equal parts honey and warm water. Keeps 2 weeks refrigerated.

How to Make Benediction

  1. Add everything to a shaker with ice.
  2. Shake about 12 seconds.
  3. Double-strain into a chilled coupe.

Pairing Tips

  • Lighter cigars are easy to overpower. Keep the elderflower to the ¼ oz listed so it stays a hint.
  • This is a good daytime pairing and a good first cocktail pairing for someone newer to cigars.
  • Double-strain for a clean, silky texture that suits the Chaplain's creaminess.
